BEAUTIFULLY STRANGE

Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquis of Dalí de Púbol (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989), commonly known as Salvador Dalí (Catalan pronunciation: [səɫβəˈðo dəˈɫi]), was a prominent Spanish Catalan surrealist painter born in Figueres.

Dalí was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. His painterly skills are often attributed to the influence of Renaissance masters. His best-known work, The Persistence of Memory, was completed in 1931. Dalí's expansive artistic repertoire includes film, sculpture, and photography, in collaboration with a range of artists in a variety of media.

Dalí attributed his "love of everything that is gilded and excessive, my passion for luxury and my love of oriental clothes" to a self-styled "Arab lineage," claiming that his ancestors were descended from the Moors.

Dalí was highly imaginative, and also had an affinity for partaking in unusual and grandiose behavior, in order to draw attention to himself. This sometimes irked those who loved his art as much as it annoyed his critics, since his eccentric manner sometimes drew more public attention than his artwork.

My brother has a HUGE replica of this in his hallway in WV... I keep running into this painting in the most unexpected places.

Gustav Klimt (July 14, 1862 – February 6, 1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. His major works include paintings, murals, sketches, and other art objects. Klimt's primary subject was the female body,and his works are marked by a frank eroticism—nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings in pencil.

The married couple Allen and Patty Eckman are known for their fine and detailed sculptures made of acid free cast paper. Their art shows mostly sculptures of Indians, but it also includes nature, women, children and animals. The couple have created the sculptures since 1988 and are the only masters of their medium having Eckman Method of Cast Paper Sculpture as their own trademark. Cyril Rolando is a 24 year old artist from Paris, France. A clinician psychologist by trade, he also draws for fun, focusing primarily on the human emotions. Despite never attending art school, Cyril’s work shines through as creative and surreal. His inspiration comes from his experiences as a psychologist, and from Time Burton and Hayao Miyazaki. About his artwork, he writes “This is a return to childhood, where animals can speak, dreams become reality and imagination rules the world.”

In this post, we’ll look at 40 creative, interesting, weird and bizarre paintings from Cyril. His work resembles a surreal form of painting, though his work pushes the boundaries of every style.

Chasseriau, Theodore (1819-1856) - 1850-52 Orientalist Interior (Private Collection)


Théodore Chassériau was a French romantic painter noted for his portraits, historical and religious paintings, allegorical murals, and Orientalist images inspired by his travels to Algeria. A precociously gifted draughtsman, he entered Ingres's studio at the age of 11 and remained there until Ingres left in 1834. He made his Salon début in 1836 with several portraits and religious subjects, including Cain Accursed, for which he received a third-class medal. Among his many submissions in subsequent years were Susanna Bathin, a Marine Venus and the Toilet of Esther. These three paintings of nude female figures combine an idealization derived from Ingres with a sensuality characteristic of Chassériau. In the 1840s he conceived an admiration for Delacroix and attempted, with considerable success, to combine Ingres's classical linear grace with Delacroix's Romantic color. Chassériau was also an outstanding portraitist and painted nudes and North African scenes (he made a visit there in 1846. After a period of ill health, exacerbated by his exhausting work on commissions for murals to decorate the Churches of Saint-Roch and Saint-Philippe-du-Roule, Chassériau died at the age of 37 in Paris

For the next week I watched as she purchased materials, stuffing, zippers, make patterns and cut materials while turning every room she walked into in that building to a factory with everything out on the floor and then, and then... This is one of the pieces from Dennis Hopper's exhibition at Art Basel this year. I remember being told it was a painting but looks more like a photograph here. The one I saw was much bigger, 10 ft tall probably 5 ft in width. A friend of mine ask a pretty good question about him tough, "Are you fascinated by his work cause he's an actor and a good one?".
