Miramax Films is an art-house/independent film production company that both produced and distributed films including foreign films over its 31-year history. For its first 14 years the company was privately owned by its founders, Bob and Harvey Weinstein. In 1993 the company was acquired by the The Walt Disney Company which operated it as a division of the Disney Company after the founders left.

Founded in 1979 by Bob and Harvey Weinstein and headquartered in New York City and Cambridge, Massachusetts, Miramax was a leading independent film motion picture distribution and production company before it was acquired by Disney in 1993. The Weinsteins operated Miramax with more creative and financial independence than any other division of Disney, until 2005 when they decided to leave the company and founded The Weinstein Company. Miramax Films was currently operated by Daniel Battsek who reported to Rich Ross, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.

500 Days of Summer

I CANT READ

This is now on my top 7 favorite movies. Pay attention... It drags a bit at the beginning but you will not regret it. I was excited the whole way through it cause it's one of those movies where you can't figure out how it's going to end. It's very funny, charming movie. I wont say anymore about it... Trust, just watch.

SPANISH SEX

This is the first movie I've seen with unsimulated sex scenes. I try not to say too much about these movies cause I find it more interesting to watch without knowing everything. Also, I believe it keeps from tainting people's ideas about what the movie is really about. With that being said... The story shifts between past and present. Various people on this island are all connected to an author who's novel is getting difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. Don't sleep, the imagery is beautiful and the way the story unfolds is very clever... Oh yeah, and the sex scenes are fucking amazing!

FERDINAND

This is the most beautiful, poetic, charming, romantic, amusing movie I have ever seen. The cinematography is gorgeous, it's like watching a piece of Art. Ferdinand Griffon (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is unhappily married and after being recently fired from his job he decides to run away with his baby-sitter, and ex-girlfriend, Marianne Renoir (Anna Karina), who is being chased by Algerian gangsters. They go on a traveling crime spree from Paris to the Mediterranean Sea in the dead man's car and you must watch to see what happens at the end.

LOGIC

I happen to watch this for the first time on Christmas day... I know. Caligula's rise to power towards the fall of the Roman Empire... A difficult movie to watch I would imagine for most people for obvious reasons. I find Peter O'Toole amazing to watch in this movie,"give me my ring". Malcolm McDowell in the lead is demonic. I think it's worth seeing at least once, can't say anymore but brace yourself.

Nostalgic...

I watched this again after years have gone by. Needless to say it felt very different now that I'm older. I forgot how smart this guy really is. Diane Keaton is amazing to watch. The shooting style is a breath of fresh air. Highly recomemded...

Cholera

I watched this movie yesterday based on the book by Gabriel García Márquez with the same name. It is set in South America in the late 1800's. A sad and long love story about a man who spends all his life waiting to marry a woman he has loved since his youth (50 some odd years). Jarvier Bardem's aging process is incredible to watch. The lead girl, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, is very famous in Italy and she is agonizingly good also... An incredible cast of foreign talent. I think Benjamin Bratt who was also very good to watch might of been the only well know American ... Oh! and John Leguizamo is always a pleasure as well, he's very intense in this. Nice to see him in a period piece.
